Weebly Free Plan Review (2026): Free in Most Places, Gone in 67 Countries
Is Weebly free in 2026? It depends on where your account lives. In 67 countries, no: Weebly wound its services down there by 20 September 2026, said it would unpublish those sites on 27 September, and ends login access on 26 December 2026. Everywhere else, including the United States, the free plan is still on sale: Weebly's pricing page, read from the US on 10 October 2026, lists Free at $0 next to three paid plans, without a word about the shutdown.
So this review gives two answers. If you have a site in one of the affected countries, the useful part is the export and domain checklist, and you have until 26 December. If you are elsewhere and already on the free plan, your site keeps publishing on a weebly.com subdomain with Square ads. If you are choosing a builder today, we suggest you start somewhere else.
Is Weebly shutting down? The dates, from Weebly's own notice
Weebly says it took "the difficult decision to wind down Weebly services in 67 countries by 2026-09-20", citing regulatory changes and a wish to streamline how it operates worldwide. Its support notice sets out the sequence for customers in those countries. Publishing of new pages stopped on 29 June 2026. Existing sites stayed up for 90 days and were scheduled to be unpublished on 27 September. Account access continues until 26 December 2026 so you can move your site, domains and data; after that, Weebly says, "you will no longer have login access to your Weebly account."
Two corrections to what you may have read, including on an earlier version of this page. First, Weebly's notice gives no date on which your data is deleted. It says login ends on 26 December, and it separately invites you to ask Weebly to erase your data once you have downloaded it. Second, the date 2 January 2027 does not appear in Weebly's notice at all. It comes from Network Solutions, a web-services company that resells Weebly, whose help page says "Weebly platforms will no longer be available in these countries after January 2, 2027." We also found no reporting after 27 September that confirms the affected sites went offline on schedule, so we describe what Weebly said would happen rather than claim it did.
Is your country on the list?
These are the 67 countries Weebly names, in its own order: Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, Thailand, South Korea, Iceland, Barbados, Colombia, Chile, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Costa Rica, Vietnam, Serbia, Egypt, Ecuador, Peru, Cambodia, Jordan, Kenya, Bahamas, Uruguay, Oman, Morocco, Tanzania, Pakistan, Nigeria, Mauritius, Bahrain, Aruba, Zambia, Bangladesh, Georgia, Laos, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, French Polynesia, Azerbaijan, New Caledonia, Zimbabwe, Armenia, Paraguay, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Montenegro, Uzbekistan, Nepal, Sierra Leone, Russia, Belarus, Algeria, Andorra, Benin, Suriname, Palau, Gabon, Ghana, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, Ethiopia, Tajikistan, Uganda, Guinea and Congo.
The United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and the EU member states are not on it. Weebly's notice doesn't explain how it decides which country an account belongs to, so if you live in one country and registered or pay from another, ask Weebly support rather than guess. Exporting a copy costs you an afternoon either way.
Save your site before 26 December: two export routes
Weebly documents two downloads, and they do different jobs. The account-wide one is under Account Settings > My Data > Download My Data, and covers your content and data across the account. The per-site one is under Website > Edit Site > Settings > Archive, and gives you one site as a file. Take both. Weebly's notice doesn't describe what the archive contains, so treat it as a record to rebuild from, not as a site another builder will open as-is.
Then deal with the domain, because that is the part that keeps your address working after the move. From the Weebly dashboard, go to Websites > Domains, choose Manage > Manage Domain on the name, switch off Registrar Lock, and copy the EPP authorisation code your new registrar will ask for. Weebly flags four catches in the same notice:
- A domain can't be transferred within 60 days of registration, an ICANN rule rather than a Weebly one.
- Unlocking the domain also switches off WHOIS privacy, so set privacy up again at the new registrar.
- Changing the registrant's name, email or phone triggers a 60-day lock, so make contact changes after the transfer, not before.
- Country-code domains such as .co.uk or .de transfer differently; Weebly asks you to contact support for those, and for moving a Google Workspace account.
Everywhere else: what the free plan still includes
Outside the 67 countries, the $0 plan is what it was. Weebly's pricing page lists free SSL, third-party embed code, a shopping cart with unlimited items, inventory management, coupons, SEO tools, lead capture and an Instagram feed on every plan, Free included, plus chat and email support. Your site publishes to a free weebly.com subdomain, with Square ads in place.
What free doesn't get is a custom domain. Weebly's pricing page lists connecting one only on its three paid plans, starting with Personal, so an older free site that has stopped resolving on its own domain needs either a paid plan or a switch back to the subdomain. The pricing page also reserves unlimited storage, ad removal and the free domain for the two upper plans, and doesn't print the free plan's storage cap.
Weebly pricing in 2026: the paid ladder
| Plan | Billed annually | Month to month | Custom domain | Square ads removed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | No (weebly.com subdomain) | No |
| Personal | $13/mo | $16/mo | Yes | No |
| Professional | $15/mo | $20/mo | Yes, plus a free domain | Yes |
| Performance | $32/mo | $36/mo | Yes, plus a free domain | Yes |
An earlier version of this review called these prices ambiguous; they no longer are. The page now states both cycles, so Professional, the cheapest plan that both connects a domain and removes the Square ads, comes to $180 for a year paid upfront, or $240 over twelve months at $20. Personal at $13 is the trap rung: it connects your domain but leaves the ads in place. The page shows no free trial of the paid plans, so the free plan is the trial. We would not buy a year of any of them for a new site, given who owns the off switch.
Should you start a new site on Weebly?
No. Nothing on the free plan itself is broken, but a free plan is a bet on its owner's next five years, and Square has already ended this one in 67 countries with a few months' notice. An existing site outside the list can stay put, as long as you keep a recent export somewhere that isn't Weebly. A new site gets the same $0 start elsewhere, without the open question.
Where to go instead
Every free tier we track is compared in our ranking of the best free website builders, and the top of that list lines up with the usual reasons people leave Weebly. For a free site with your own domain, Google Sites connects one for $0, and our guide to a free website builder with a free domain covers the rest of that question. For a single page, Carrd's Pro Standard plan adds a custom domain, forms and embeds for $19 a year. For a designed portfolio, Framer has a usable free plan and a Basic plan at $10 a month with yearly billing selected. If you want the closest thing to Weebly's all-in-one editor, Wix's Light plan is $17 a month billed yearly.
If you sell, look at Square Online first, since Square owns Weebly and runs it as a separate product. Its US plans page lists a Free plan at $0 a month per location, with online card payments at 3.3% + 30¢, and Plus at $49 a month with that fee at 2.9% + 30¢. The page doesn't say whether the free plan connects a custom domain, so check that before you move a store.
Edge cases
A domain you registered in the last 60 days can't leave yet, so start the transfer the day the lock lifts, and well before 26 December. Weebly also notes that transferring the domain away doesn't force you off Weebly hosting, and that you could keep the domain with Weebly and point it at a new host instead; in the 67 countries that second option ends with your login, so move it. Finally, if you're elsewhere and on the free plan with a domain that used to work for nothing, the fix is a paid plan or the weebly.com subdomain; how long you can stay on a free plan explains why rules like that change.
Questions readers ask
Is Weebly free?
Yes, outside 67 countries. Weebly's US pricing page, read on 10 October 2026, still lists a Free plan at $0 that publishes to a weebly.com subdomain with Square ads. In the 67 countries on Weebly's list, services were wound down by 20 September 2026 and login access ends on 26 December 2026.
Is Weebly shutting down?
In 67 countries, yes. Weebly's notice says sites there were scheduled to be unpublished on 27 September 2026 and that login access ends on 26 December 2026. Elsewhere, including the US, it is still selling all four plans and its pricing page carries no shutdown notice.
Will my domain keep working?
Only if it points at a site that is still published. In the 67 countries, unlock the domain and transfer it to another registrar before 26 December 2026; domains less than 60 days old can't move. Elsewhere, a custom domain on Weebly needs a paid plan, from Personal at $13 a month billed annually.
Can I still export my Weebly site?
Yes, while you can log in. Use Account Settings > My Data > Download My Data for the whole account, and Website > Edit Site > Settings > Archive for each site. In the affected countries, that access ends on 26 December 2026.
Does Weebly have a free trial?
Not of the paid plans, as far as its pricing page shows. The Free plan works as the trial: it is $0 with no time limit outside the 67 countries. Paid plans run from $13 a month billed annually, or $16 month to month.
